Unfairly, I might add. Nikon was the professionals' choice, with Canon not far behind, and that cachet was considered important for bragging rights in the marketplace. Olympus and Pentax meanwhile, the other members of Japan's "Big Five" were revolutionizing 35mm SLRs with their sleek compact designs. Those SRT- cameras, big and blocky though they were, remained in their catalog for 15 years, during which they were consistently among the leaders in sales. Yet that longevity and durability never seemed to get the love the others garnered. In today's marketplace this is an advantage, as you pointed out, in terms of price. Anyone seeking a manual focus manual exposure 35mm SLR should look no farther than Minolta's SR-T, except maybe for the SR-T 100, which was so stripped down it only offered 1/500th sec. as its fastest shutter speed. I had a 201 in the 70s and absolutely loved it. Coupled with the 50mm 1.7 it came with it took astonishing pictures. I'd say I took those pictures, but even compared to the Canons and Nikons some of my friends had, that Minolta was pure magic.
